What is a Content Delivery Network (CDN)?
A Content Delivery Network or CDN is a network of servers that deliver cached static content from websites to the end user based on the geographic location of the end user. Content is served from the nearest edge server to the end-user. The type of files that are generally delivered by the CDN are static files such as video, live streams, applications and more. Many customers start with accelerating small static files on their website such as images, javascript and css. There are several cost-effective CDN providers and they are distinguishable on a few factors such as price, edge locations (where are the servers that will deliver your content), performance, and variety of services.
